HUDSON, Ohio -- It's nice when the name of a restaurant also is its own landmark. The bright red entryway beckons diners to a wonderful dining experience.

Fitting nicely in Hudson's First And Main shopping area, One Red Door offers a U-shaped bar with wood-lined walls to one side and well-spaced tables with brick walls on the other.

We spent more than the usual time perusing the wine list - an extensive and well-thought-out global affair - before ordering a charcuterie plate with your choice of items. The meat-and-cheese variety is tasty and local. An accompanying platter of hummus made for nice pita-bread dipping as we sipped our drinks.

This is a place to expand your palate, because the menu offerings will zing all your taste buds.

For dinner, our group of four ordered a culinary gamut: Seafood, vegetarian, meat and chicken:

Wild Mushroom Pizza definitely is meant for serious mushroom lovers, with cave aged gruyere cheese and truffle oil.

Hangar steak was well-prepared but was lined with a bit too much gristle for my taste.

A chicken dish atop a small bed of pasta satisfied, but note: It was one of several dishes being changed out with some alterations.

The restaurant is a bit loud, but it's got a fun energetic vibe, and it was nice to linger over coffee with dessert. And desserts all hit the mark: A generous portion of carrot cake with coconut was a hit, but the star of the show was a rich yet light-tasting vanilla creme brulee, which had me scooping out every last sweet remnant.
